After losing his ride in the Atlantic Championship with Mathiasen Motorsports, Jonathan Bomarito is scheduled to make his Indy Lights debut with Genoa Racing at Long Beach this weekend. Thanks in part to his former team owners; Ray and Leslie Mathiasen, who are working with Genoa Racing this weekend to make the deal a reality.
It's an unfortunate end to Mathiasen Motorsports, but they are leaving with class and doing everything in their power to help Jonathan Bomarito succeed.
The 27-year-old Bomarito is no stranger to Long Beach as he led most of the race held there last season in the Atlantic Championship before a mechanical issue caused him to limp the car home in fifth. He also spent some time in an Indy Lights car last winter, so he should adapt fairly quickly to his new surroundings. It will be interesting to see if this one-off deal will turn into a full season. I certainly hope it does.

Things are looking good so far.. he's second on the time charts after Day 1 in Long Beach.
Even better today as he qualified on the front row (2nd overall) despite battling pneumonia. Should be an interesting race tomorrow.
**update** In regards to my last comment, Bomarito has since been stripped of his fast lap (due to a standing yellow on the course). He will now start eighth in tomorrow's race. More later.
