I thought I had already written something on this last week when it was announced, but apparently not.... in any case, the speculation was confirmed that Ana Beatriz will return to the Indy Lights series with Sam Schmidt Motorsports for 2009.The 23-year-old Brazilian driver was formerly known as Bia Figueiredo, prior to coming to the United States to drive for Sam Schmidt.
Last season, Ana became the first female to win an Indy Lights race when she claimed the top spot at Nashville, just ahead of Bobby Wilson and Arie Luyendyk. She was incredibly consistent last year, finishing inside the top-five in 56% of her starts (including six podiums). She finished inside the top-ten in 68.8% of her races, enroute to a solid third place in the overall 2008 championship.
Ana will be a driver to watch in 2009 and should put up an immediate challenge for the season championship.
