Nick Mancuso recently completed a Star Mazda test at Infineon Raceway with JDC Motorsports, logging over 300 miles. Despite being new to a Star Mazda car and Infineon Raceway, he managed to lay down some pretty solid laps; reportedly faster than any of the other Star Mazda drivers in attendance. The 23-year-old is currently working on putting together a program for 2009, while balancing his Business/Economic studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
The single-seater car was a bit of a change for the aspiring race driver as he had previously developed his craft in the sports car world, namely the SCCA. In 2007, he was selected as the SCCA National Rookie of the Year. He spent last season (2008), running in the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup. Despite several solid qualifying efforts in the series, his best finish was 10th at both Portland International Raceway and Road Atlanta. During his Road Atlanta outing, he managed to set the second quickest lap of the race; putting down a quicker time than eventual race winner Liam Kenney.
