Matos and Antinucci Win at the Glen

The Indy Lights drivers spent their Fourth of July weekend watching fireworks explode in the humid air above Seneca Lake at Watkins Glen International Raceway as part of the Indy-Pendence celebration. I'm sure the fireworks were the least of their focus as they were on location for Rounds 8 & 9 of the Indy Lights Championship. Many of the drivers returning to their roots: a road course.

Raphael Matos and Richard Antinucci proved to be up for the challenge claiming their spots in the championship hunt by trading the top two spots in the only double header of the season. Matos took the win in Round 8, while Antinucci took the win in Round 9. Unfortunately for Matos, the champagne celebration had to be put on hold until the second race of the day was completed. Both drivers have been series favorites so it was nice to see them run well and challenge each other for the point. Several top contenders had a rough weekend with a mixture of mechanical failures and driver errors causing the attrition. Dillon Battistini seemed to be hurt the worst finishing 17th and 20th in both events. Pole sitter Franck Perera didn't fare much better failing to finish on the lead lap in both events.
