Lorenzo Mandarino and Gary Carlton Victorious in Quebec
This is sort of old news by now but Gary Carlton and Lorenzo Mandarino found their way to the top step of the podium at the 11th annual Monaco de Trois-Rivieres karting event.
Mandarino, who is a former Star Mazda race winner, drove an incredible race in wet conditions to take the win in the Rotax Senior division. The 22-year-old Canadian driver had trouble on the warm-up lap of the pre-final and subsequently started from the rear of the field. Despite a disappinting start, he managed to drive through the field to finish 7th. The rain continued into the final event. Mandarino started the race in seventh but claimed the overall lead from Olivier Sirois with four laps remaining. He went on to win by 4.742 seconds. Honorable mention should go to Canadian Michael Vincec. Vincec, who underwent similar circumstances to those of Mandarino, had to start the prefinal from the back of the pack. He proceeded to finish 10th in the pre-final and 3rd in the feature event.
Gary Carlton's drive wasn't quite as impressive in the ICC category, but he still managed to win the feature event by 2.458 secconds over Dany Trepanier and Louis-Charles Filatreaut.
