Sebastian Saavedra Wins in Kansas

Rookie driver Sebastian Saavedra claimed his first win of the season at Kansas Speedway. He drove a real consistent race after getting by Wade Cunningham in the opening laps. The first oval race of the year was a true awakening for many of the Firestone Indy Lights drivers as it was stacked with cautions (five caution flags for 33 laps). The number of cautions and incidents on the track can be largely attributed to the number of rookies in the field (13), as well as the windy conditions in Kansas. Wind gusts were said to be as high as 33mph with an average of 16mph during the event. Wade Cunningham returned to form by finishing 2nd, while rookie Mario Romancini ran a great race to finish 3rd--claiming his first podium of the season.

The Hard Charger of the Day is Jay Howard. Howard had a great run--improving 12 positions--finishing 10th after starting 22nd. Honorable mention should go to James Hinchcliffe who managed to improve 11 positions in his first oval race, he started 23rd and finished 12th.

Rookie Charlie Kimball, had a great race (that included some bad luck) --but still managed to set the fastest lap of the race at 186.862 mph- 29.2836 seconds. This was his first oval race as well.

Go Sebastien! I wish that I could have been there. Oh well, my family is taking a summer trip to NASCAR this year and who knows, maybe I will win the Sleep Inn hotel promotions and get the chance to go to the Skip Barber racing school! Wouldn't that be a blast!!
