Frenchman Richard Philippe has signed with Genoa for a campaign in the 2009 Indy Lights series. Richard, who is the middle of the three Philippe brothers involved in racing (Nelson-22, Richard-19, and Wilson-16), earned his Indy Lights rookie license just last week at Kentucky Speedway.
The nineteen-year-old pilot plans to contest the entire 2009 Indy Lights schedule with Genoa Racing. Bringing a wealth, no pun intended, of open wheel racing experience with him to Genoa, he has taken a unique path to the Indy Lights series by running in different series up and down the racing ladder, both here in America and in Europe. Read on.
Last season, he ran in the Formula 3 Euro Series with Carlin Motorsport, his best finish was 9th after starting 19th at Catalunya. In 2007, he ran in the ultra-competitive World Series by Renault with Fortec. In 2006, he ran a full Atlantic Championship schedule with Forsythe, claiming one podium. In 2005, at the age of fifteen, he made history by becoming the youngest winner at Indianapolis Motor Speedway enroute to winning the Formula BMW-USA title. Without a doubt, he has the experience to be a front runner this season with Genoa. Whether or not the results come... remains to be seen.
