Gianmarco Raimondo has announced that he will be returning to the Formula BMW-Americas series with Team Autotecnica in 2009. The eighteen-year-old driver spent last season with the team and won the first two races of the season at Laguna Seca. He was the first rookie in series history to sweep the opening round. After his record setting weekend, his best finish was third, but he managed to stand on the podium four times in 2008.
Prior to his time in Formula BMW, the Canadian pilot developed his craft in the karting ranks. In 2007, he ran a few Skip Barber regional events, in addition to his Formula BMW tests with Autotecnica and Jensen Motorsport.
